Zonta Rockhampton IWD Breakfast 2020
Our IWD Breakfast held on Friday 6th March at the Frenchville Sports Club was an outstanding success and President Catherine thanked all members for their efforts in ensuring that this was the case.
On the day, Ergon Energy was thanked for their generous sponsorship of the occasion and the Frenchville Sports Club for their in-kind support over the many years they have provided a venue for this event. The wet weather did not deter the crowd or dampen spirits, with more than 190 guests booked for the occasion.
Guest Speaker was Rockhampton Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale, who was recently appointed as a member of the Magistrates Court of Queensland and has been appointed to serve Rockhampton for three years. Magistrate Beckinsale focussed on the 2020 IWD theme #EachforEqual and delivered an inspiring address.
Members and guests also celebrated the achievements of our 2020 Living Treasure Award recipient, Rose Swadling, who recently announced her impending retirement, after twenty-six years of serving the citizens of Rockhampton through her position as a local councillor. Her service to the city, above and beyond the call of duty, was acknowledged. She was known for responding to every individual or group which came to her with a concern. Vice President Trish Collins presented Rose with her trophy and certificate. Rose is a much-loved member of our community. Congratulations Rose.
The Young Women in Public Affairs Award winner was Ridhi Beotra, a student at The Cathedral College. This award recognised Ridhi for her commitment to volunteerism, volunteer leadership achievements and dedication to empowering women worldwide. In Ridhi’s acceptance speech she particularly noted the strong female role models she has in her life including her teachers and thanked her family and friends for their love and support. It was a most fitting award for Ridhi who is generous with her time and talents. Past President Meredith Sutherland presented Ridhi with her Certificate and cheque. Congratulations Ridhi.
A very successful multi-draw raffle led by Valda was conducted.
Thank you to the team of Zontians who worked hard to make this event a success.
