Rockhampton Zontians meet with Federal Assistant Minister for Families and Children

Zontians Berenice, Meredith, Jan, Sharbaree, Karen and Rosalie met informally with Federal Assistant Minister for Families and Children, Dr David Gillespie and Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, for an informal discussion re the Minister’s portfolio. Dr Gillespie spoke briefly about his responsibilities as an Assistant Minister and outlined some of the ways they are working to make improvements for families. Consolidating services was one of the ways which has proved successful. Some very valuable discussion was had around topics which covered Domestic and Family Violence, Child Safety and adopting and fostering of children. Discussion also covered the way access to the internet can have a harmful effect on the health of both parents and children, whether it was by interaction on Social Media or constant use of computers in gaming. We look forward to the follow up with Ms Landry. The group also enjoyed a light lunch during the session.
