Zonta Club of Hervey Bay celebrates 35th Anniversary!

The Zonta Club of Hervey Bay celebrated its 35th Charter anniversary on 31 January 2026 at Kondari Hotel.

The Club was Chartered on 3rd December 1990 in the name of “Zonta Club of Fraser Coast Area Inc and was renamed “Zonta Club of Hervey Bay Inc.” on 25th January 2005.

A number of current and past members of the Club attended and were joined by fellow Zontians from Bundaberg, Maryborough, Area 2 Director Nshara Kingston and Zonta International District 22, represented by Governor Petra Ladwig. Also gracing the event were Federal Member for Hinkler David Batt MP, State Member for Hervey Bay David Lee MP, Fraser Coast Regional Council Major George Seymour and Fraser Coast Councillors Michelle Govers and Michelle Byrne. Representatives from partner organisations including the Wide Bay Women’s Health and Rotary Clubs of Hervey Bay City and Sunrise were also present.

Special guests offered congratulatory messages to the Club citing the impact that the Club has made in the local community and beyond through education, service and advocacy work over the last 35 years.

The Club honoured five members for their long-term service as a member of our Club:

  • Susan Harrison – 25 years
  • Joan Beatty – 20 years
  • Robin Rayner – 9 years
  • Tania van Wijk – 6 years
  • Louise Renfrey – 5 years

Three Honorary Zontians were also recognised for their commitment and contribution to the Club over the past few years and for helping Zonta build a better world for women and girls. The new HonZons are Graham Bate, Justin van Wijk and Anna Nixon.

It was one memorable day that we “honour the past, celebrate the present and look to the future with purpose, friendship and hope, united in our commitment to building a better world for women and girls for generations to come,” said Club President Michelle Lockwood.

We send our special thanks to the Club’s Charter Members and past members who have helped make what the Club is today!
