Caloundra Zonta’s RISE Project

Community of the Year Award

VISION FOR RISE PROJECT

To work with the Sunshine Coast community, service providers, all levels of government and local business to build accommodation in the southern region of the Sunshine Coast for women and children affected by family violence. Use a collaborative approach to effectively raise community awareness and advocate for change in attitudes about family violence and the impact on the lives of all family members.

OUTCOMES

To ensure women and children at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast have access to facilities which provide a real alternative to a ‘life of violence for themselves and their children.’

That a collaborative approach be adopted to ensure the best possible resources and support services can be provided to clients of the RISE Project.

That the RISE Project encourages and requires community participation as part of the attitude changing initiative to raise awareness of domestic violence issues in the community.

That the cycle of violence in intergenerational family groups is broken by providing alternative programs of support and education for women and children.

That RISE initiates school programs for teenage boys and girls to circumvent early stages of domestic violence traits. Zonta has had success with supporting the school programs such as LOVE BITES in Sunshine Coast schools.

To encourage community and business to take responsibility for acceptable social behaviours conducive to strong family values of safe and secure homes for all family members.

RISE – RESTART IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE LOGO:

“Just as a flower rises from the soil to
encounter a new environment, so too
can women rise, above the past, in a
safe place and encounter new horizons
and strength.”
