Fundraising & Advocacy Event: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat  8 May 2025

The Zonta Club of Paradise Point proudly supported Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month with a vibrant fundraising and advocacy evening at Spotlight Theatrical Company’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

This much-loved Andrew Lloyd Webber musical brought colour, energy and heart to the stage, retelling the biblical story of Joseph through dazzling costumes, uplifting music and high-energy performances. Beyond the entertainment, the night carried a powerful message.

Just as Joseph’s coat is made up of many colours, domestic and family violence takes many forms — physical, emotional, financial and psychological. By attending this special Zonta fundraiser, patrons directly supported initiatives that help build a safer, more equitable world for women and girls.

Members, friends and families came together to enjoy an unforgettable night of theatre while contributing to meaningful change in our community.

Sausage Sizzles – Fundraising with Purpose

The Zonta Club of Paradise Point successfully combined fundraising and advocacy at the Bunnings Arundel Sausage Sizzles, raising funds in support of club projects, including the Senior Schooling Bursary.

Alongside sizzling sausages, members used the opportunity to promote International Women’s Day (8 March) and the 2025 theme #AccelerateAction, engaging shoppers in conversations about gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Highlights (2025) included: – Community members striking the #Accelerat

eAction pose in solidarity – Patrons sharing personal pledges for advancing gender equality – A photo square capturing moments of commitment and advocacy – Distribution of International Women’s Day ribbons in purple, green and white, encouraging conversation and visibility in the lead-up to IWD

Together, we raised both funds and awareness — one sausage at a time.

Those that participated were given a IWD Ribbon (in colours of IWD (Purple, Green and/or White) to wear for the following week and on IWD to promote discussion about the ways to accelerate action. Together, we raised funds and awareness—one sausage at a time!

16 Days of Activism – Painting the Gold Coast Orange

The Zonta Club of Paradise Point proudly led local advocacy efforts during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, held annually from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).

As part of the global Zonta Says NO campaign, the Club worked to “paint the Gold Coast orange,” raising awareness of the devastating impact of domestic and family violence on women, children and the wider community.

Jenny Gamble, Zonta Says NO Coordinator for Paradise Point, reflected:

“Our campaign was part of a worldwide effort by Zonta clubs to shine a spotlight on gender-based violence. We want to keep this issue visible in our community and ensure people know where support and help are available.”

“Orange Our World” Walk – 2025

For the second year running, the Zonta Club of Paradise Point proudly hosted its annual Orange the World Walk on Sunday 23 November 2025, as part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

This year’s walk was dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for an end to gender-based violence. By 9:00 am, a committed group of members, friends, and community supporters set out along the Surfers Paradise to Broadbeach esplanade, ensuring our message was visible to the public.

Their presence demonstrated that Zonta’s advocacy remains strong and unwavering. Walkers proudly wearing orange helped ensure the message to end gender-based violence was seen and heard by the community.

The Club extends sincere thanks to all members, friends, and associates who supported the walk — including those who promoted the event through personal networks and school communities.

Together, we continue to shine a light on the urgent need to end gender-based violence — one step at a time.

Advocacy

The Zonta Club of Paradise Point remains unwavering in its commitment to ending violence against women and girls. Through both advocacy and practical action, the Club works to raise awareness, influence attitudes and support those affected by gender-based violence.

Each year, members actively participate in campaigns such as: – Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (25 November – 10 December)

As part of these campaigns, the Club displays 16 free-standing orange figures within the community. These striking symbols prompt conversation, awareness and reflection. Orange — the UN-designated colour of the campaign — represents resilience, hope and a future free from violence.

Gender Equality & Climate Action

The Club is proud to support Zonta International’s Zonta Says Now to Gender Equality and Climate Action initiative. Throughout 2025 and beyond, members have integrated climate awareness into club meetings.

Zonta International calls on clubs to: – Raise awareness of the gendered impacts of climate change – Advocate for women’s leadership in environmental decision-making – Support girls’ education and participation in STEM for sustainable climate solutions

The Zonta Club of Paradise Point recognises the interconnectedness of gender equality and climate action and is committed to contributing to global solutions through local action.

Service Projects

Breast Cushion Assembly

Members create and distribute specialised breast care cushions for individuals recovering from mastectomy or breast surgery. These cushions provide comfort, gentle support and practical relief during the recovery process, improving quality of life for breast cancer patients.

Birthing Kit Assembly – Empowering Young Leaders

The Zonta Club of Paradise Point proudly supported large-scale Birthing Kit assemblies led by secondary school students, strengthening our commitment to global maternal health while empowering young people through service.

In 2025, club members supported students at Benowa State High School to assemble 200 birthing kits, with the day facilitated by our 2024 Zonta Club of Paradise Point Senior Student Bursary recipient, Rahaf Afif. Rahaf’s leadership provided a powerful example of youth advocacy and service in action.

The Club also assisted students at Merrimac State High School, who assembled a further 200 birthing kits, contributing to safer childbirth outcomes for women and babies in developing countries.

These collaborative service days highlighted the impact of education, leadership and collective action in addressing global inequities affecting women and girls.
