Bunnings Arundel Sausage Sizzle – A Delicious Success with a Powerful Message!
On March 2, the Zonta Club of Paradise Point combined fundraising with advocacy at our Bunnings Arundel Sausage Sizzle, raising an impressive $1,800 in support of our projects, including the Senior Schooling Bursary.
In addition to sizzling sausages, we took the opportunity to highlight International Women’s Day (March 8) and this year’s theme, #AccelerateAction. Using resources from the International Women’s Day committee, we engaged patrons in meaningful conversations about gender equality.
- Many enthusiastically “struck the pose” in support of #AccelerateAction
- Patrons shared their personal pledges for advancing gender equality
- A photo square captured moments of solidarity and commitment
Those that participated were given a IWD Ribbon (in colours of IWD (Purple, Green and/or White) to wear for the following week and on IWD to promote discussion about the ways to accelerate action. Together, we raised funds and awareness—one sausage at a time!
Zonta Club of Paradise Point Led the Charge to Paint the Gold Coast Orange for 16 Days of Activism in 2024
The Zonta Club of Paradise Point is geared up to “paint the Gold Coast orange” as part of the global 16 Days of Activism campaign, running from November 25 (the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) through to December 10 (the United Nations Human Rights Day). This powerful campaign aims to raise awareness of the devastating impact domestic and family violence has on women, children, and the community as a whole.
Jenny Gamble, the Zonta Says NO campaign coordinator for Paradise Point, shared her thoughts on the initiative:
“Our campaign was part of a worldwide effort by Zonta Clubs to shine a spotlight on the critical issues surrounding gender-based violence. We want to bring this problem to the forefront of community attention and provide vital resources for those affected.”
“Orange Our World” Walk
As part of our advocacy efforts, the Zonta Club of Paradise Point hosted the “Orange Our World” Walk on Sunday, November 24. The event will commence at 9 a.m. from Surfers Paradise Mall and continue along the coast to Pratten Park, Broadbeach. Participants wore orange, symbolising their stand against gender-based violence and showing solidarity with survivors. Together, we can help build a safer, more equitable world for women and girls.
Advocacy
The Club stands resolute in its commitment to join hands with global initiatives aimed at eradicating violence against women and girls. We are steadfast in our mission to not only raise awareness but also take concrete actions to put an end to gender-based violence in all its forms.
Year after year, our club actively engages in impactful campaigns such as ‘Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women’ and the ’16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,’ spanning from November 25 to December 10. As part of our advocacy efforts, we proudly showcase 16 free-standing orange cut-out figures, symbolizing our unwavering stance against gender-based violence.
These vibrant orange figures serve as a powerful beacon in our community, igniting conversations and sparking dialogue about the pressing issue of domestic violence. Orange, the colour designated by the UN to symbolise the fight against domestic violence, represents not only resilience but also optimism for a future where women and girls are free from the scourge of violence.
Through our collective actions and solidarity, we strive to create a world where every individual, regardless of gender, can live a life free from fear and oppression. Together, let us paint a brighter future—one where the vibrant hue of orange signifies hope, progress, and a steadfast determination to end violence against women and girls. Join us as we stand united in our pursuit of a safer, more equitable world for all.
The Zonta Club is excited to support the ‘Zonta Says Now to Gender Equality and Climate Action’ campaign by integrating climate actions into our service projects throughout 2024. Zonta International urges members to raise awareness of climate change and its gender-related impacts, advocate for women’s inclusion in environmental decision-making, and promote girls’ education and STEM participation for enhanced climate solutions. We’re dedicated to these initiatives, recognising the importance of collective action in addressing gender equality and climate change.

Service Projects
Breast Cushion Assembly. Our club creates and distributes specialised cushions designed to provide comfort and support to individuals who have undergone mastectomy or breast surgery. These cushions are often used to alleviate discomfort, provide gentle pressure, and promote healing during the post-operative recovery period. The service project aims to improve the quality of life for breast cancer survivors by offering practical support and assistance during their recovery journey.
Supporting Support the Girls. Empowering vulnerable, disadvantaged and isolated women and girls with access to professionally fitted bras, essential products and the support needed to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
Birthing Kit Support. Club members rallied with enthusiasm to support the Golden Z Griffith Gold Coast in hosting their inaugural Birthing Kit Assembly Day, an event where 200 pristine birthing kits were crafted. This initiative stands as a beacon of hope, working tirelessly to safeguard the health and well-being of mothers, newborns, and birth attendants during the most vulnerable moments of childbirth in developing countries.
