Zonta delivers to the Sexual Assault Support Centre

Through the Rockhampton CIB, Zonta Rockhampton supports the victims of sexual assault with clothing, which replaces their own clothing, which is required for forensic purposes.  For several years now, the club has purchased clothing in different sizes to be available for women following sexual assault. The need is monitored, and restocking takes place regularly with the QPS.

Recently, Service Chair Meredith delivered twelve packs of clothing of different sizes to Zonta’s QPS contact, and another twenty packs are ready to go. The packs are all tagged with several Zonta logos and an explanation of our Zonta club.

This service project is not just about providing clothes. Through the Zonta Says NO to Violence against Women and Girls, this project is about spreading awareness of sexual assault. Worldwide, Zonta members raise awareness of the global pandemic of women’s rights violations and unite to fight violence against women and girls. For Zonta, gender-based violence includes harmful practices such as sexual violence and harassment, child marriage, and human trafficking.

Zonta has a history of partnering with United Nations agencies or recognized NGOs on programs that promote and protect the human rights of all women and girls and reduce the incidence of violence. Zonta International currently supports the Global Programme to End Child Marriage, which brings together governments, civil society, families and young people in a collective effort to prevent girls from marrying too young and to support those girls who married early when only young girls.
