Presidents Report SGCT – June-July 2017

ZONTA SGCT PRESIDENTS REPORT JUNE/JULY 2017

Visit to The Sanctuary

Big thanks to all who were able to attend the sanctuary visit.  We were well received by Simone and Nigel. It was great to look around and see the challenges ahead and also the many wonderful things that have already been achieved. Most of us I think felt inspired to take on a project or two there to help out. For those who were able to bring some donations to help extra thanks to them too. It was really good to say hello to some of the women and  get a feel for how this place has made it possible for them to start on the hard road towards healing for them and their families. To be a small part of that is so worthwhile and what Zonta is all about. Tentative plan to go out every fourth Monday of the month which is the week after our meeting. This can be alternated with week end day to allow all to participate.

Dinner for Ans

I think I can safely say a good night was had by all. The venue was perfect and  food was yummy. How good to meet with Ans in this informal setting and hear her comments. Her enthusiasm and excitement for all things Zontian is infectious and inspiring for us all I think. Thanks to Kaye for organising the night.

Theatre matinee

70 Girls 70 at Gold Coast Little Theatre was a good laugh and well presented for an amateur group. Great effort from all members who tried hard to support the day with friends and family. Nibblies were yummy thank you. Enjoyed the venue and the time was perfect I think . Good to see older people out on stage and having a go.

Zonta leaflets

Leaflets have now been completed with useful input from members. Ready for distribution. Positive feedback from Ans.

Publicity

Contacted via email Gold Coast Bulletin, Seniors paper and Friday Flyer with small article about Zonta and what we do. Photo included to Bulletin and Seniors paper. I also mentioned our support at The Sanctuary and included their contact details with Simones permission. All were interested in publishing, one asked for some clarification which I provided. Once put into the papers my phone started ringing and from this we have managed to gain 4 perspective new members and a donation of art for fundraising towards Zonta and the Sanctuary.

Art presentation

Met with the lovely Linda Davis over coffee and she presented me with 3 signed copies of the art of Jim Frazier. They are all on antique paper and are we can do what we want with to fund raise. He asks that we make a $5 donation per print to his project Symphony of the Earth. Linda saw our article in the Friday Flyer and remembered how Zonta in Hervey Bay had been so helpful to her and her daughter in a very stressful time in their lives. So she mentioned this to Jim and he was all for it. There will be more to come and hopefully our association with Jim can be very worthwhile for boosting our funds.

DAYS FOR GIRLS SEWING DAY

I continue to network on this very pleasant and worthwhile morning. Enjoy spreading the word about Zonta. Met a lady from the View Club Southport who wants me to come and talk about what we do. She is keen to meet Simone as well. Told her we can reciprocate by having her speak for us about what they do probably next year now.
