LoveBites Training
Using the grant money from EPIC Assist and working as a collaborative effort with additional funds from our Club as well as from the Zonta Clubs of Brisbane Inc, Brisbane River Inc, Brisbane Metro Breakfast Inc, Maroochy Inc and Pine Rivers Inc 63 school based staff were trained by NAPCAN as LoveBites Facilitators. The training occurred in September in venues at three State High Schools. 25 staff from sixteen schools in the Metropolitan North/North Coast areas attended the training at Everton Park SHS, 20 staff from 16 schools in the Metropolitan South region attended Sunnybank SHS and in Metropolitan West 18 staff from 9 schools attended training at Redbank Plains SHS. All in all some 63 staff (teachers, school based nurses, youth coordinators and chaplains) AND we have a waiting list for further training!! A great effort and many thanks to the schools who provided the facilities for the training.
100% of participants attended for the two days. Comments on training were extremely positive:
Fantastic training awesome can’t wait for day 2
Greatday! Very well paced presentation. Good opportunities to have discussions and questions answered.
Very powerful excellent training session. Engaging presenter and resources. Thank you
The next phase of the project is implementation in schools of the LoveBites program from the training. To assist staff in this phase a number of actions will occur:
- Three working groups across the three hubs will be established to assist in planning and implementation strategies, coordination and post training support to staff;
- Mentoring by staff who have previously been trained and undertaken a number of school based workshops;
- Post training workshops and Resource support
This has been a great inter-Club service project and our thanks to the participating Clubs. Thanks also to our Club President Jo and Club member Barbara who put in many hours to achieve this successful outcome.
