Zonta Club of Warwick Inc.

The Zonta Club of Warwick Inc was chartered as a Club of Zonta International in May 1997.  This year we celebrate our 20th anniversary and have invited all present and past members to a dinner on 26 August at the Abbey of the Roses where our first meeting was held.

The club meets on the third Tuesday of each month.  Club meetings are held at the Allman Room, Criterion Hotel, 95 Palmerin Street, Warwick at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start with dinner during the meeting.

We currently have a membership of 23 which includes business and professional women from many backgrounds. We’d love to have more.  For information contact our President Meryl Strand by email to be invited to our meeting.

You can also find us on facebook.  Search for Zonta Club of Warwick Inc and read what we have been up to.

Club Activities

The Zonta Club of Warwick is involved in a number of activities which includes, but isn’t limited to:

  • Breast Care Cushions

The club has donated hundreds of breast care cushions in recent years to private and public hospitals in both Brisbane and Toowoomba.  The cushions are donated to women who have had breast surgery with our best wishes.  We continue to receive acknowledgements (and sometimes donations) which indicates the appreciation by these women at a time when they are having an intense health crisis.

The project is undertaken in conjunction with the Department of Corrective Services and the women from the Numinbah Correctional Centre who assemble these breast care cushions for us.  We appreciate their support for this very worthwhile Zonta project.

  • Birthing Kit Assembly

The Zonta Club of Warwick fundraises for and assembles Birthing Kits each year.  The contents of each kit costs the club $3 and we aim to assemble at least 1000 at an assembly day in May each year with help from women and girls (and sometimes men and boys) from schools and community organizations in our area.  The small cost of $3 may mean the difference between life and death for both mother and baby.

Our kits are sent to the Birthing Kit Foundation which distributes them to areas of need throughout the world each year.  More information about the Birthing Kit Foundation can be found at https://www.bkfa.org.au/.

  • Young Women’s Scholarship

Each year the club invites applications for the Young Women’s Scholarship from girls making the transition from Year 10 into Year 11 at a Warwick District School.  The aim of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a girl who may be considering leaving school due to financial pressures.  The scholarship is administered by the student’s school and is currently valued at $750.  It is presented to the selected student at her Speech Night/Day.

Applications for 2017 are now open.  Please complete and email your application in accordance with instructions on the form.  To receive a copy of the information sheet and application, just email us and one will be sent to you.

Applications close at 11.59pm on Friday 6 October.

  • Additional Donations

The Zonta Club of Warwick fundraises for, and donates to, a number of other organizations including Warwick Safe Haven and Days for Girls Allora (https://www.daysforgirls.org/).

The Club also presents an annual Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award at the Club’s International Women’s Day breakfast on 8 March and also provides funds allowing girls to attend such educational courses as STEM (A curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and STEAM (Arts is added to the STEM mix of subjects).
