The Zonta Club of Hervey Bay promotes justice and respect for human rights through various local advocacy work, the most recent of which is in support of the “Zonta Says NO” global campaign to end violence against women and girls.

  9 November 2013 – Members and friends of Zonta Club of Hervey Bay made a bold statement in their orange shirts during an awareness walk down the Esplanade. The walk attracted a number of passionate individuals, both men and women, young and old alike.The walk which commenced from the Hervey Bay Court House, symbolic of the fight against violence, garnered media interest with coverage in local newspapers and television. It is our hope that this inaugural event will be the start of an annual domestic violence awareness activity at the Bay. 
  11 October 2013 – In celebration of the International Day of the Girl, Zonta Club of Hervey Bay gets behind “Love Bites,” an important program for young people run by the Hervey Bay PCYC.The program catering for youth, between 14 and 16 years old, is all about shaping their view of adult concepts and encouraging them to make good choices. Through this program, Zonta Club of Hervey Bay, aims to educate the youth of the realities of domestic violence and how they too can help put a stop to it. 

 

 

   Zonta Says NO billboard – we tap local business establishments to display the Zonta Says NO billboard to help educate and create awareness about domestic violence within our community.
  7 September 2013 – The club organized a Spring Luncheon in cooperation with Peter Lehmann Wines, Dan Murphy’s, and Coast Restaurant to raise funds in support of community projects against domestic violence.With the money raised, Zonta Club of Hervey Bay is working with local police to provide blue line phones for victims of domestic violence, giving vulnerable women a hotline to access when they are in need. 

 

 

 

 

 

 Zonta members in pink with guest speakers at the International Women’s Day Breakfast on 8 March 2012.Over 100 women attended International Women’s Day Breakfast on 8 March 2012 at the Hervey Bay Boat Club. Every year on March 8th, the Zonta Club of Hervey Bay organizes an International Women’s Day Breakfast in celebration of women’s economic, political, and social achievements.  We feature inspirational speakers – women who share their  life, work, passion,  and advocacy that inspire each of us to make a difference in our family, workplace, community, country, and the world. The IWD breakfast attracts over 100 women in and around Hervey Bay.
